Founded in 2024 as a spin-out from the Faculty of School of Life Sciences, MiDx is developing an innovative urine-based testing solution to support the early detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in people with Cystic Fibrosis and other complex respiratory conditions.
The company aims to improve quality of life and support a future in which early, accurate microbial detection becomes central to managing complex respiratory conditions.
MiDx’s initial focus addresses the urgent need for non-sputum diagnostics for P. aeruginosa, a bacterium with a global diagnostic market valued at over $1.5 billion and expected to grow substantially.
To address this need, MiDx has developed the Rapid Pseudomonas aeruginosa Detection (RPaD) lateral flow device, designed to provide results in 20 minutes using urine.
The technology is currently being evaluated in the Cystic Fibrosis clinical study UnPAQ and will support further multi-centre validation through the Cystic Fibrosis Translational Innovation Hub PRECISION programme.
Regulatory pathway planning is underway across the UK, USA and Europe, with commercial launch targeted for 2028–2029.
